Putopia (pyoo-toh-pee-uh) is a neighborhood in Solano County bordered along Putah Creek, a salmon-filled tributary of the Sacramento River. Many of the thirteen families in the neighborhood have lived and farmed here for more than thirty years. A walk through Putopia will take you past walnuts, plums, lavender, sunflowers, wheat, grapes, olives, and more. Look closer and you’ll see some of the neighborhood’s non-human residents, including horses, goats, chickens, peacocks, dogs, cats, and the occasional wild turkey. Years ago, resident Manfred Kusch aptly christened this special blend of people and place “Putopia.”
Our 14-acre goat farm sits on the northern border of the neighborhood. To capture the spirit of our neighborhood, we named our piece of Eden, Putopia Farms. We’ve been loving and raising registered miniature Nubian goats on this property since 2013 and Nubian goats since 1980. We love to connect with other farmers, Nubian enthusiasts, and current and potential goat owners!
Our mission is to create a welcoming environment for our friends and family to work, play, relax and enjoy each other. We strive to grow abundant, healthy real food from our plants and animals. From there, we enjoy creating culinary pleasures to share with and celebrating life with our community of friends and family.
“My goats are not contemplative, accepting, or introspective. They are the Greek chorus of my farm, sometimes of my life. They watch me closely and remind me that I am foolish.” – Jon Katz
